Kendoon Repairs and Maintenance Update – COVID-19 – 2 October 2020

Routine and Emergency Repairs – Customer Expectations

As you will be aware during the majority of the lockdown due to COVID-19, Kendoon could only offer a “life and limb” emergency repairs service. As our contractors gradually returned to work and some of the restrictions under lockdown have been lifted, we have returned to an almost normal repairs and maintenance service.

However, we would ask customers to bear with us. Whilst we are trying our utmost to get repairs completed within timescales, we are still under a number of restrictions which prevents us from doing our job as we would have pre-COVID-19. As you will no doubt be aware COVID-19 cases are rising again, with significant numbers in the Glasgow City area.


·      Officers are not allowed to carry out home visits, unless by exception. This has meant that some jobs that require pre-inspections will take longer. This is to protect both our staff, our customers and contractors.

·      We are still working remotely. Due to Scottish Government restrictions, we are classed as non-essential workers so our guidance is to continue to work remotely until we are advised otherwise by the Government. This is not likely to happen in the near future.

·      We are continuing to catch up on the backlog of routine repairs that we logged during the lockdown. Many of these are complex and again require pre and post inspections.

·      Our contractors have returned to work as normal, however they are still catching up with a backlog of repairs across all businesses they service, therefore they are in demand.

·      All repair visits take more time due to health and wellbeing questions that must be asked before entering your home, the necessity to wear and dispose of PPE, and to cleanse and sanitise the properties we, and our contractors, have been in.

·      Due to the weather beginning to get colder we have a number of boiler and heating issues that we need to attend to. These are priority, emergency repairs that must be tackled first

We understand that customers wish a normal repairs service within target timelines, however we hope you understand that our business, and many others, do not yet have the capacity to operate as we would have under normal circumstances. Your officer will explain this to you when taking your report of a repair.


Planned Maintenance Upgrades

Despite the restrictions set out above, we also continue to carry out planned maintenance works, although again with delays due to COVID-19. This has impacted on the supply chain for materials and our contractors are having to manage the demands of a number of organisations that are also carrying out improvements works. They are also having to plan work differently to ensure minimal exposure and risk to a customer when being in their homes or communal areas.  A table giving updates of all the ongoing maintenance works is below.

Gutter Cleaning

Smoke and Heat Detectors

Work is ongoing and is projected to be complete by February 2021. 60% completion rate at end of September 2020.

Tree Survey

20 trees need work

 Work beginning Autumn 2020.


Gas Servicing

All properties

Gas servicing continues as normal. SG and HSE guidance notes that this is a legislative requirement and must continue.
